The Real World? Finals Studying!!!

Learning and studying at the University of Puget Sounds is a spectacular experience. Being surrounded by brilliant people, then walking into the real world, where everyone isn't so smart is kind of a culture shock. I realized it over Thanksgiving break. I got very stuck in the UPS bubble of brilliance and education where even the kids who look like high school drop outs can help with O. Chem homework. I got used to everyone's brilliance, then going back to Colorado, all of a sudden, not everyone knew why bonding with p-orbitals was funny or the economics of the 2008 financial crisis. On campus, we learn faster than anyone else in the world. We are forced to pick up information quickly, and understand and comprehend, then apply it. Doing homework on a Friday is normal at UPS. It is almost sad to go back to the real world and see what happens after college. People no longer strive for knowledge. They get stuck in their jobs, doing the same mundane task, over and over, then going home and living their life, of parenting or partying. I love the learning atmosphere and I am glad I still have 2.5 more years here. I wish I could make people remember what it is like to learn.
