What is Lent?

Lent began yesterday, on Ash Wednesday, but I had so much homework that I couldn't write a blog. So here we are today. To me, Lent is a time to prove to myself that I can give up something I feel dependent on, or something that is bad for me. This year, I gave up chocolate, Facebook, and bagels. It was funny because at 11:59, my roommate Kimberlee and I were stuffing our faces full of chocolate since it was still technically Fat Tuesday. I'm excited for 47-ish days of being free from these things. Chocolate, I don't particularly like, but eat a lot sometimes anyway, so giving that up will definitely be good. Bagels I don't often eat here, but they are not very healthy, so I gave those up too. Last, Facebook. This one is going to be hard, but so far, I have found it rather freeing. I realized I spent way to much time on that site just so that I could waste time not doing homework and it was kind of addicting. So bam! gone! No Facebook. I will have an update about how to no Facebook thing is going.
Lent started from Jesus being lead into a desert and fasting for 40 days and 40 nights and then the Devil tempted him, but Jesus stayed true to God and refused all the temptations. Now, we give up something to prove our faith to God. You can find it in Matthew 4:1-11, Mark 1:12-13 and Luke 4:1-13. I can't say that is the reason I celebrate Lent, but it is an important reason to remember.
