Love your neighbor
Loving your neighbor was something I have always been told, but only recently have I discovered it for myself. At K-life, they have been discussing Philippians 2:1-4, how Jesus turned his cheek and loved his neighbors. Its an inspiration that at a time when you were to hit them back, he didn't. I heard a joke that you are to love your neighbor, unless you live in New York City, because then it's impossible. The joke is funny, but frusterating to me because I realized that even when you have a terrible neighbor and have plenty of reason to hate them, there is no point. Hate is easy but love takes effort, and wouldn't it make me a better person to love them even though I have plenty of reason not to? I think so. For me, when I find a challenge in my life, I have to overcome it- whether it be a concept in school I just don't understand, or a habit I realized I have that needs to be broken. I decided that I need to find time to turn frusterating relationships into flurishing ones. I need to take the step to make myself better not just for what I want, but to put others first, because thats very important to me, and I seemed to have lost it for a while. But I am back, and I am trying. I have imagined, dreamed and will now do.
